YOUR WAY YAHWEH DEVOTIONAL- From The Pit To The Pond

  • Psalm 7:15:.“He made a pit, and dug it, and is fallen into the ditch which he made.” This verse describes a person who sets a trap and then falls into it, highlighting the idea of poetic justice. (Biblestudytools)

For the past several months, there has been construction going on next door at my rental property. We are updating the drainage system, and other renovations. Currently, there are trenches going as deep as 8 feet in places. I was noticing that among the mounds of dirt that were dug and piled up in various places throughout the yard, there was a great deal of slate. I found what appeared to be a particularly nice slab that would look great by the small rain pond. This spectacular, smooth, nicely-shaped, perfect-sized slate just seemed to call to me…from the bottom of one of the 8 foot pits! I climbed down into the pit, and absent mindedly, as I did not remember to take my ladder in case the dirt started to cave. When I picked up the slate and examined it up closely, I realized, that not only was it not nearly as beauteous as it appeared at first glance, I was now covered in filth and at the bottom a dangerous pit!

How similar are the temptations of life? Does the enemy tempt us with something or someone who seems simply alluring, stunning and irresistible? Then before we realize it, we are soiled in sin and in a dangerous pit. This can be applied to addiction, adultery, fornication and more. Good news! Psalm 40:2 says, “He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.” Our Heavenly Father can rescue us out of the pit of despair, and place our feet on firm foundation…maybe even with some beautiful slate.
